Everyone has seen what Fitzgerald can do in the postseason, posting 176 yards and a touchdown on 8 receptions last week. Not many people realize that in his 8 career playoff games he has gone for 912 yards and 10 touchdowns on 53 receptions. That puts him on pace for astonishing numbers for a full season, at 1824 yards and 20 touchdowns on 106 receptions!
Many people would point to Jerry Rice as being the all time best in the postseason, and for good reason. in 29 career playoff games he has gone for over 2200 yards and 22 touchdowns. He also had that historic stretch in 1988 where he went for 409 yards and 6 touchdowns in 3 games. This was topped only by Fitzgerald in 08, who went for 546 yard and 7 touchdowns in a 4 game period.
If you were to stretch out the per game average that fitzgerald has put up in the postseason over the amount of games Rice played his number would be astronomical. The projections would have him at 3306 yards and 36 touchdowns on 192 receptions in 29 games. This would make him easily the best wideout in postseason history. We will all just have to wait and see if he is able to continue his outstanding play this weekend in Carolina.
