Niantic has made a big announcement through a verified account on Reddit. The statement is as follows.
“With the announcement of Raid Battles and the new battle features, we are staying true on our commitment to ensuring that Pokémon GO continues to be a fun and fair experience for all Trainers. Starting today, Pokémon caught using third-party services that circumvent normal gameplay will appear marked with a slash in the inventory and may not behave as expected. We are humbled by the excitement for all the new features we announced yesterday. This is one small part of our continued commitment to maintaining the integrity of our community and delivering an amazing Pokémon GO experience.”
This seems like the best possible solution for cheaters. If someone really wants to cheat their way to catch them all, then this would technically allow them to do so without ruining the game for everyone who plays the honest way. That is really always the biggest issue with cheaters in any game. Things like “God Mode” or “Unlock Everything” is fine for single player games, but it’s when it affects others in the realm of multiplayer that it becomes a problem. With the news of the new Raids and Gym update, this is an excellent time to make this kind of change.
It is possible that Niantic is doing this specifically so a group of cheaters can’t just farm Raids together, but no matter the reason, the result should lead to a better product for everyone involved.
